What pricing criteria should you take into account when purchasing a pool cover?

The price of a pool cover is mainly based on four criteria:

  • cover type: the price of a bubble cover, a 4-season cover or a wintering cover is really different from the price of a solar cover or a safety cover;
  • protective cover size and shape: the bigger the cover, i.e. for large-sized pools (round, oval, rectangular), the more likely it is that the price will increase with the size;
  • cover quality: not all pool covers are the same in terms of quality. Cover sturdiness, reliability, service life, as well as whether it's certified compliant with safety standards in effect are factors that will make the pool cover price increase;
  • options: a host of pool cover models exist on the market today that are more or less customizable. These customizing options have a price that will be added on to the final total (anti-UV cover, opaque cover, insulating cover, etc.).

Bubble cover price

This pool "bubble" cover, also known as a summer cover, is normally the pool cover most-frequently used during the summer season. It's often this type of cover that can be seen on above-ground, partially in-ground and in-ground pools and that's taken off/put back on each time the pool's used. The pool bubble cover, laid across the water surface, is particularly effective in preventing impurities and pollution from getting into the pool water. The price for a bubble cover is around €5/m2 on average. The price can, however, rise to €9/m2 based on cover quality. Practically-speaking, the price of a pool bubble cover is around €80 for a small-sized pool, and can reach €300 for a 5 x 10 m pool.

Wintering cover price

The pool wintering tarp or winter cover, just as indispensable as a summer cover, defines the type of cover designed for protecting your pool during winter (namely from frost and freezing). The price of a pool wintering cover also varies based on the aforementioned factors. Count around €80 for a small, standard-quality pool winter cover, and up to €500 for a large-sized winter cover, that's sturdy and complies with the NF P 90-308 safety standard.

Solar cover price

The pool solar cover, highly-effective for keeping the water warm, is one of the most affordable covers. On average, you can count around €20 to €80 if you'd like to purchase a solar cover.

Bar cover price

The bar cover is often presented as a multi-purpose cover. It can be used throughout the year and protects from impurities and pollution, and at the same time, is also deemed a safety system (provided it complies with the standard in effect). Given its characteristics, the bar cover is one of the most expensive pool covers: between €20 and €40/m2. For a pool surface area of 5 m x 10 m, you'll need to spend around €1,500 on average.

Net cover price

The net cover is at the other end of the scale from bar covers and is the most affordable when it comes to pool covers. Based on the size of the pool to protect, a budget of between €15 and €80 is often enough to equip your pool with a net cover. Given the price, don't expect this pool cover to filter light and water all year round.

Safety cover price

The pool safety cover is one of the systems designed to make your pool safe. To choose a pool cover as a safety system, you must choose on that complies with regulations in effect and with the NF P 90-308 standard. This pool safety standard requires the cover to be sturdy enough to withstand a weight of 100 kg minimum without sagging or ripping. So, quite understandably, the price of a safety cover is higher than that of a traditional cover: from €10 to €30 €/m2, with models costing up to €2,000 for large-sized pools.
