Safe pool: what standards should you keep in mind?
When it comes to safety, the French NF P90-309 and 308 standards in effect since 2004 are the ones to be taken into account in France:
- The NF P90-309 standard, the key benchmark for pool enclosures, specifies the essential safety requirements for the structure, in particular the minimum size of the enclosure, the characteristics of the materials used and the methods of load resistance. It imposes requirements concerning wind resistance (120 Km/h) and snow resistance (60 Kg/m²), for the enclosure's structural stability and accessibility. By complying with this standard, we guarantee our pool enclosures meet essential safety requirements.
- The following standard, NF P90-308, is for pool safety shutters and covers. The standard stipulates the essential characteristics required such as the fixation system, which must not contain anything that could cause injury, the system must be able to withstand a 100 kg adult falling on it without ripping. All pool cover solutions must comply with this standard in order to limit any risk of accident or injury.
Pool safety: common sense comes first!
Making your pool safe goes far beyond just complying with standards and regulations. You have to adopt responsible safety practices like constantly supervising children, teaching them to swim, using suitable buoyancy devices and looking after your general pool equipment on a regular basis.
